What Is A Mi-Ki?
The Mi-Ki (pronounced Mee-Kee) is a rare toy breed that originated in the 1980’s bred for companionship. They are a purebreed not a mix or designer breed. After generations of DNA, health tested bloodlines, and accurate record keeping the Mi-Ki was recognized by the United Kennel Club, UKC.
The Mi-Ki is generally healthy with generations of health and genetically tested bloodlines. They are a charming breed with a temperament all their own. The Mi-Ki is not yappy or skittish as a lot of fellow toy breeds tend to be. They are a sturdy breed, great for families with children. Given their small stature, they require gentle handling for their own safety, adult supervision is a must. They make for good companions for the elderly or those that live a less active lifestyle. Given the appropriate temperament they also make excellent Emotional Support Dogs.
Mi-Ki's need exercise and mental stimulation but no strenuous exercising is necessary.
They are highly intelligent and easy to house train. Their long coat is low to non shedding. They are hypoallergenic making them an acceptable breed for most with allergies. Their loving and easily adaptable personality classifies them as good for therapy dog work. I'm very proud of my Mi-Ki's who are working therapy and emotional support dogs.
History
Wisconsin breeder Maureen van Wormer (also known as Mikki Mackin) wanted to create a small, long-haired breed with a calm, quiet temperament. She crossbred Shih Tzus with Papillion, Maltese, Yorkshire Terriers, and Japanese Chin to develop the Mi-Ki (pronounced Mee-Kee). Though the original breeding records were lost, extensive DNA analysis of 321 genetic markers found traces of Pekingese and Pomeranian, as well.
After developing the breed standard in 1991, the first Mi-Ki registry was formed in 1999 to develop the breed further.
Purebred, AMRA, IMR or UKC registered Mi-Ki's. 100% pure Mi-Ki's. 1000% adorable. These tiny bundles of affection want only to please and be loved. Hypo-allergenic, easy care, totally FUN!
Mi-Ki’s are a truly remarkable, relatively new, hypoallergenic, low to non shedding, rare breed, toy dog.
Happy, loving, playful, sweet, gentle and engaging, Mi-Ki’s are at home with people of all ages and pets of all types.
They are born and raised in my home, kissed and cuddled daily, given outside toilet training and recall and understanding 'no biting'.
They will stand 8-10" to the shoulder and weigh between 4-10lbs as adults. They are not suited to being left for long periods of time.
I will be looking for them to go to happy, safe, forever homes. Please therefore, do not be offended if I ask you questions as the most important part of this process is choosing the right families for my puppies. They will be able to leave me from, depending on size, between 9 weeks with first vaccination and microchip and 12 weeks (13+ for the tiny ones) of age being fully vaccinated and microchipped.
I am able to arrange worldwide transport at cost.
